Judge David Brodsky retired from the 19th Judicial Circuit Court of Lake County in January 2023 after a 16-year judicial career where he presided in the Civil, Family, and Criminal divisions. In the Civil Division, Judge Brodsky gained extensive experience presiding over and settling a wide variety of cases including personal injury, medical malpractice, wrongful death, commercial litigation, products liability, eminent domain, mechanics lien litigation, premises liability, Nursing Home and Condominium Act cases, and administrative reviews. In the Family Division Judge Brodsky tried and settled cases that involved complex business-related issues, family trusts, marital property, as well as the sensitive issues surrounding shared parenting. He is a certified mediator through the National Judicial College.
Judge Brodsky has a long-standing interest in conflict resolution. He understands that litigation can be stressful, expensive, and life-consuming for the people involved, and he takes great satisfaction in being able to bring parties together to resolve their differences. Judge Brodsky takes a patient approach to mediation, taking the time to learn the unique facts and issues involved in each case and striving to understand each party’s position, guiding them to resolution. He has extensive experience and success resolving cases both in-person and virtually and understands that in whichever forum people choose to resolve their differences, they need feel heard and understood. Before joining the bench, Judge Brodsky was the Public Defender of Lake County Illinois, an office he proudly ran for 10 years. He is an experienced litigator that has led teams of lawyers in complex litigation and has lectured extensively on the use and presentation of expert witnesses. Judge Brodsky was a member of the Illinois Capital Litigation Trial Bar and was appointed by the Illinois Supreme Court to the Capital Trial Bar Screening Committee. He served as President of Illinois Public Defenders Association and President of the Jefferson American Inn of Court. In 2007, David Brodsky was appointed to the bench by the Judges before whom he practiced and spent the next 16 years successfully resolving cases on a wide range of subjects and complexities.
